One of my kids (technically an adult now) has somewhat disconnected from his IRL friend group and is spending more and more time with his online friends. He's been friends with these other boys for about 2 years now and never met them in person because they are sprinkled all over North America. I have been annoyed by how much time he is spending online, but this statement got me rethinking that.
