Our summers are much shorter than most US summers - 6.5 weeks, and we'll be travelling for more than half of it. Our rule is that planes are a free-for-all all, but otherwise, we remain pretty strict.

During the summer if we're home/at grandparents, he can watch an episode of something before dinner, which is a deviation from these school year routine (no TV during the week). Duolingo and Sushi Maths on the iPad. At my parents', he and my mum sometimes watch Lego speedbuilds together or do the NYT puzzles.

Wow - only 6.5 weeks!

We, too, go with a "planes are a free-for-all" strategy! :)

I grew up with year round school (Northern California) so this feels normal for me, can't even imagine 10 weeks.

After trying unsuccessfully to get input from the older kids on baby names, we decided that they just had to be able to pronounce the baby's name (after my son Austin was called Oggin for over a year, although that was very cute)

Now for a complete 180, what are your thoughts on the OECD report How's life for children in the digital age?

Oggin! So cute!!

Thanks for asking! Still making my way through it - the main takeaways seem to line up with most of what we know (i.e., the digital world offers both opportunities and risks, we need a whole-of-society approach to address the challenges, and more research is needed). I like the emphasis on understanding the larger context of use, i.e. "the need to better understand how offline factors contribute to or protect against problematic digital media use and its impact on well-being"!

What did you think?

I haven't read it yet 🙈 but I'd rather ask for your take on it than an AI summary
