As the definition of evidence-based medicine include the following aspect: 'A medical provider’s clinical expertise ', I think that the definition of evidence-based parenting should also contain something along the line of 'field experience of an expert in a related field'. (This is for sure not the best wording for it though. :) ) One of the main criticism Emily Oster receives about her work is regarding exactly this aspect - she can interpret research but she does not have field experience in the fields related to parenting. (Of course, it would be impossible for one person to have field experience in all related fields PLUS have the skill set of understanding and interpreting research). This way, the definition of evidence-based parenting would become a four-pronged approach. What do you think?
