I’m a huge fan of Emily Oster’s books and newsletter on evidence-based parenting, so I was excited to have the chance to be interviewed by her. Like, maybe a little too excited. When I found out this was happening, I gasped. Emily Oster is going to interview me!? My husband and I then started cheering. I can remember only two other times in my life when I experienced this level of starstruck awe. Once, when—I kid you not—I met Obama. The other when I ran into Tim Riggins from Friday Night Lights (I’m told this is not his real name) at a bar.
Luckily, I was able to compose myself and share what I know about smartphones, social media, and parenting in this long-form interview. There’s something in here for every techno sapien, whether you’re a parent, a researcher, or a person who’s just curious about the state of the science on social media and mental health.
You can find the full interview (linked below) over at Emily’s newsletter, ParentData. And while you’re there, subscribe! I think you’ll be a fan, too.
This is one of the most helpful and practical guides I have found on teen social media use! Excited to share with families and implement in my own home when the time comes.
