Summer recap
From ChatGPT to screen addiction, here's what you may have missed
Welcome back to Techno Sapiens! I’m Jacqueline Nesi, a psychologist, professor, and mom of two (soon-to-be three!) young kids.
If you like Techno Sapiens, please consider sharing it with a friend today!
It’s a weird time of year, huh?
Some of us are weeks into the school year. Some of us are frantically preparing for it. And some of us are desperately soaking up the last drops of summer.
No matter where you fall on the back-to-school spectrum, it feels to me like a good time to regroup. To look back on the last few months, take a deep breath, maybe steal a quick glance at that September calendar and try not to panic.
So, in that spirit, we’re keeping it light today, with a quick recap of posts you may have missed this summer at Techno Sapiens.
Please, peruse at your leisure, and I’ll see you back here next week. Which is September. And that’s totally fine! Who’s panicking? Not me!1
A very Techno Sapiens summer

We chatted about the ups and downs of parenting…
A personal reflection on surprises in parenting.
Masking my desperate need to know the sex of my third child behind the veil of “research analysis.”
We dipped our toes into AI and well-being…
A new report from the American Psychological Association offers guidance on teen AI use and well-being.
Research roundup, featuring new studies on ChatGPT, effects of screen time, and using phones around our kids.
New data from Common Sense Media suggests 72% of 13- to 17-year-olds have used AI companions.
And we caught up on the latest research…
New research that I published on teens’ smartphone pickups, emotions, and mindfulness.
How to cultivate “time affluence” so you can stop feeling so busy and start feeling happier (ft. Hootie and the Blowfish).
A quick survey
